Lead generation

Why your business website is not getting leads

The seven reasons a website with traffic still produces no enquiries, and how to diagnose which one is affecting you.

If people are arriving and nothing is happening, more traffic will not help. It will just cost more to reach the same conclusion. There are seven common causes, and they are diagnosable in an afternoon.

1. The form is broken

Start here, always. Submit your own form from a phone, on cellular data, in an incognito window. Check that the email arrives and does not land in spam. We find broken or misrouted forms in roughly one in five audits. It is the single most expensive failure on the internet, and the cheapest to fix.

2. Nobody can find how to contact you

Your phone number should be tappable in the header on mobile, repeated in the footer, and present on every service page. The contact form should be reachable without hunting. If someone has to scroll back to the top to act, most will not.

3. The page is too slow to earn attention

Every additional second of load time costs conversions. Deloitte measured a 7 percent conversion lift per 100 milliseconds removed. If your Largest Contentful Paint is over 2.5 seconds on mobile, fix that before you touch the copy.

4. You are asking for too much, too early

Every field you add reduces submissions. A first contact needs a name, a way to reply, and enough context to be useful. Address, budget, how-did-you-hear and preferred-contact-method can wait for the conversation.

5. There is nothing to trust

American buyers are risk-averse with unfamiliar vendors. Reviews with names, license and insurance numbers, warranty terms, real photographs of real work, a physical service area, response-time promises. Put these next to the point where someone hesitates, not on a separate "Why choose us" page nobody visits.

6. The traffic is the wrong traffic

Open Search Console and look at the queries producing impressions. If they are informational ("how does a metal roof work") rather than commercial ("metal roof installer near me"), the visitors are researching, not buying. That needs different pages, not a different form.

7. The page does not answer the question the visitor arrived with

Someone searching for emergency plumbing wants availability, service area and a phone number in the first screen. Someone comparing dental implants wants price ranges, financing and before-and-after photos. Matching the page to the intent behind the search is most of conversion work.

A diagnostic you can run this week

  1. Submit every form on the site from a phone on cellular data.
  2. Run each key page through PageSpeed Insights and record the mobile LCP.
  3. Check Search Console queries: commercial intent or informational?
  4. Watch five session recordings and note where people stop scrolling.
  5. Count the taps between landing and contacting you. Anything over two is friction worth removing.
Conversion work is mostly subtraction: fewer fields, fewer choices, fewer seconds, fewer unanswered questions.
